Escalope is a hand-drawn layered font designed by Antipixel. It started from a project called "Flash Fonts" I created, a creative work process intended to design fonts in a fast and more intuitive way.
In its own way, this type was setting the rules all by itself: The low midline, the false-AllCaps style, all the fun & playfull stylistic alternates, and many more attributes that where thought and designed in a very short period of time.
Escalope had a really complex process of creation, since the texture was part of an experimental exercise at the beggining of it all. The characters where drawn by hand, with the same tool to acquire the same width and characteristics.
After that, these where scanned and vectorized from scratch in the font software. Once the alphabet was created, the glyphs where arranged in different sheets, printed and scanned again to gain the photocopy texture. (Nothing compares to real textures!)
Once this process was optimized to be sure to get the best result, the complete Glyph set (1478 characters) and Icon set (150 icons) were designed, kerned and programmed in Open-Type.
Escalope was sketched and designed from October 2016 to January 2017, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It was finally released the 27th January, 2017.
